Hacking / Tinkering

And now for the fun part! Working with corporate software solutions is all good and well but a developer needs to hone his skills in more than just an eight to five office. Here is where things get strictly hobbyist and where I leave my skill measurements behind. I was always interested in robotics and hacking but was always so busy with other stuff that I never got around to actually pursuing it. I always messed around with a lot of software (as nearly all developers do) – attempting to hack website, breaking MS windows, installing Android mods on different types of devices etc – but I didn’t do much hardware hacking. In 2013 I decided that enough is enough, so I got an Arduino starter kit and started learning circuitry and robotics. So far I only made experimental stuff to learn the basics, but hopefully someday it will transpire into some “real world” solutions.

My current project:

  1. Interfacing Android with Arduino through USB or Bluetooth
  2. Making you control your Arduino with a smartphone, harnessing the smartphone power
  3. Leaving an old smartphone in your home or car as a control unit
  4. And implementing Android side code to handle incoming requests from internet or GSM (other phones)
  5. THUS: You have a remote controlled house/car from anywhere in the world
